East London's Beaches

East London is blessed with a beautiful coastline, and the sea and rivers in and around East London spell paradise for those who love watersports and the outdoor adventure lifestyle.

The Nahoon, Orient and Eastern Beaches are close to the city centre, and many other unspoilt beaches extend for miles in and around East London.

Surfing, canoeing, scuba diving and fishing are just some of the watersports that are catered for. Guided canoe trials, hikes and walks in the region provide plenty for the visitor to do.


Game Reserves in and around East London

Inkwenkwezi Private Game Reserve is situated 30 km from East London and is home to rhino, lion, wildebeest, giraffe, warthog, zebra, springbok, impala, gemsbok, kudu, other small game and a wide variety of birds.

Mpongo Private Game Reserve is situated 20 minutes by road from East London. Mpongo is home to hippo, giraffe, zebra, several species of antelope and over 120 species of birds. The Reserve also boasts a restaurant built right next to the hippo pool.


Other attractions in East London

The East London Aquarium on the Esplanade is home to 400 species of marine fauna. The Whale Deck and Pier provide for whale watching, which is a highlight during the months of July to September, and dolphins are spotted along our coastline all year round.

Other attractions in East London include the Queens Park Zoo, the Lion Park, Khaya La Bantu Cultural Village, the East London Museum, the German Settlers' Memorial, Gately House Museum, Fort Glamorgan, Calgary Museum, the Ann Bryant Art Gallery, and the Guild Theatre for the performing arts.
